The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Ondo State Command and the Public Complaints Commission (Nigerian Ombudsman) has resolved to strengthen the existing ties between the Federal agencies in the management of conflict using the tool of alternative dispute resolution and enforcement of recommendations by the Commission.
The resolution was agreed on when the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Engr Olatundun Olayinka paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Commissioner in charge of the Commission in Ondo State, Hon. Adeyemi Oni in his office at Akure the State capital.
While stating the purpose of his visit, Engr Olatundun X-rayed the functions of the Directorate of Crisis Management of the Corps which has a unit called Peace and Conflict Resolution Management that provides alternative resolution of disputes between willing parties.
The Unit of the Corps in Ondo State has helped to solve various cases that should have lingered in the court of law amicably between willing parties.
“We can both bring our expertise to bear if we work together and interface in the area of alternative dispute resolution” Olatundun said.
In his remark, the Commissioner appreciated the Commandant for his visit and eulogized the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in their professionalism in conflict management. He specifically emphasized the display of knowledge, skill and professionalism of the Corps at this extremely critical state of the nation.
In his words, “NSCDC and PCC are like Siamese twins. We protect people’s rights, receive complaints and redress the complaints. We need to synergize with the Civil Defence especially in the area of conflict management.
“ The act establishing the Public Complaints Commission does not empower us to enforce our recommendations in dispute resolution. We shall be needing the NSCDC in the area of enforcement.” He said.
