The Social Democratic Party (SDP), Ondo State Chapter on Monday 10th July 2023 held a stakeholders meeting with the party leaders in Ondo North Senatorial District which covers the local government areas of Akoko North-East, Akoko North-West, Akoko South-East, Akoko South-West, Ose, and Owo.

The meeting, which was held as part of the party’s preparation for the forthcoming Local Government Elections across the state, took place at Ikare-Akoko, Akoko North/East Local Government Area of the State.

While addressing participants, the party state chairman, Hon Stephen Adewale, expressed satisfaction over the turnout of party leaders despite the short notice and the challenges they faced before, during, and after the 2023 general elections.

Adewale said the purpose of the gathering was to have a round table discussion on the challenges facing the party and explore the possible ways of moving the party forward.

He appreciated them for their selfless services, support, and love in gearing the party to the next level.

The chairman assured the party Chieftains that they would not relent in their efforts towards making the party an enviable one and a force to be reckoned with.

The leaders of the party at the various local governments discussed some of the problems facing the party at the gathering.

Many lamented that lack of finance had been the major setback for the party in the senatorial district.

They appealed to the state executive members of the party to address the problem of finance.

Speaking to the newsmen, Mr. Oluyomi Taye, the SDP Chairman in Ose Local Government said “the stakeholders purpose of the meeting was to look into what really happened before, during and after the last election, the mistake that we made so that it could be corrected in the future.

He added that the meeting has helped them to highlight their various mistakes ahead of the forthcoming Local Government Elections.”

Also speaking, Hon. Abeh Adedayo, SDP organising secretary for Akoko South East said “Today’s meeting is very essential and I can say after the meeting that there is hope with SDP, we have loose hope before but with what our state chairman and other state leaders did here today, we can all see that there is hope and future in SDP.”

He urged the party stakeholders to go back to the grassroots and make sure the mobilisation starts in earnest, even as he appealed to the leadership of the party at the state and the national to ensure that the party is properly funded.

Hon. Sunday Adedoyin sums it up this way. “We are meeting today just to rejuvenate the party that we have all lost hope in. With this meeting, I believe it will go a long way in rebuilding the party.”

He advised the party leaders to “continue what they have just started, touring the state senatorial districts, and it shouldn’t be limited to state leaders alone. The national body should also emulate what our state chairman is doing. That’s when our party can rise again.”
