The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Initiative, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has officially commissioned and handed over the Digital Learning Centre for Women in Ondo State.

The event, which was held at the Ondo State Public Service Training Institute (PSTI), Ilara-Mokin, is aimed at enable women in the State to function effectively in today’s digitally savvy world.

Senator Tinubu, who spoke virtually, explained that today’s commissioning presents another opportunity to further expand digital literacy among women, which is one of the key areas of the Renewed Hope Initiative of President Bola Tinubu to accelerate economic activity and contribute to national development.

The First Lady, who revealed that fifteen Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centres have been equipped and commissioned across the country, with plans to commission more, said: “I am delighted to commission ten digital centres across ten states in the country, including Ondo State.

“The ones earlier commissioned were named after notable women who have contributed positively to women’s development. We hope that these training centres will help women fit into today’s digital world and contribute meaningfully to boosting economic activity and national development.”

In her opening remarks, the Wife of the Ondo State Governor, Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, appreciated Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her efforts towards women’s empowerment across the country, especially in Ondo State.

Mrs Aiyedatiwa described the event as a testament to their collective belief that digital transformation is not just about technology, but about empowering citizens and laying a robust foundation for a prosperous future for Ondo State and Nigeria.

Her words:“These digital centres are more than just buildings; they are gateways to opportunities, equipping our youth, entrepreneurs, and citizens with the essential skills to thrive in the 21st-century economy.

“The Renewed Hope Initiative understands that a strong economy is built from the grassroots . By providing access to digital tools and training, we are creating a generation of digitally literate individuals ready to innovate, create, and lead in the digital space.

“I thank Senator Tinubu for her unwavering commitment to the people of the state and her foresight in championing this vital initiative. We also express our profound gratitude to NITDA for their expertise and partnership in bringing this to fruition.”

Mrs Aiyedatiwa urged the people of the state who will use the centre to embrace the opportunity with open minds and determined spirits. “We are confident that the Digital Centre will unlock new potentials, foster economic growth, and help secure a brighter, more digitally empowered future for all.”

The Director-General of Ondo State PSTI, Mr Olumide Asere, commended the initiative of Senator Tinubu on youth and women’s empowerment, and also thanked Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his support in driving technology in the state.

The PSTI DG revealed that the centre was chosen as a beneficiary because of its modest efforts in the area of technological development, and added that the institute had trained 150 youths in technology this year.

He said:“I want to thank Governor Aiyedatiwa for helping us to drive technology in the state, which is the way forward in today’s world. I equally thank Senator Oluremi Tinubu for this great initiative, because the greatest investment for our youth is a skill that can impact their future positively.”
