Lokoja – In a bold move to enhance public safety, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on Monday unveiled two state-of-the-art HP-20 surveillance drones at the Chari Maigumeri Barracks, headquarters of 12 Brigade, Lokoja. The drones, designed for advanced monitoring and rapid-response operations, are expected to significantly boost security across the state.

Governor Ododo described the initiative as a critical step in sustaining peace and denying criminals any foothold in Kogi. “These drones can operate in difficult terrains, provide real-time intelligence, and enable precision-led operations against terrorists. They also allow early detection of suspicious movements,” he said.

The governor emphasized that the drones would improve coordination among security agencies and enable faster, intelligence-driven deployment of forces. “Let me be very clear, this administration will not falter. We will not surrender our communities. We will not allow bandits or terrorists to take over any part of our land. The government must be in charge, not bandits or kidnappers,” Ododo declared.

Highlighting Kogi State’s strategic location as a gateway between Northern and Southern Nigeria, the governor noted that criminal elements have historically targeted the state’s forests and border communities. “We studied these threats carefully, and we responded with action, not excuses,” he added. He further stated that over the past two years, Kogi has built a robust security framework combining technology, community involvement, inter-agency cooperation, and strong political will. “Our goal is clear: to make Kogi State the safest in the country,” Ododo affirmed.

Brigadier General K.U. Sidi, Commander of 12 Brigade, described the drone deployment as a “game changer” for the state’s security operations, placing Kogi at the forefront of innovation and operational efficiency. Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shuaibu, Brigadier General O.S. Abai, Director of Transformation and Innovation at Army Headquarters, also pledged the Nigerian Army’s continued commitment to securing Kogi. He noted the strategic deployment of the 21 Battalion to the state to strengthen troop presence and improve rapid response to emerging threats.

With these high-tech tools now operational, Kogi State’s government and security agencies are positioning themselves to respond swiftly to crime, ensuring the safety of residents and reinforcing public confidence in law enforcement.
