In line with its quest to fight against corruption and misappropriation of public funds , the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC has summoned the Akure South Local government Chairman, Hon Gbenga Fasua to its Office for questioning on misappropriation and unbudgeted money spent in purchasing cars for the traditional rulers in the local government council.
Moreover, the office of the Commission at Ibadan , Oyo state capital beamed its search lights and focused the eagle eyes on financial recklessness of the government in the state under this administration.
It was gathered reliably that, other local governments like Akure North and few others are strongly involved in the alleged misappropriation saga.
It would be recalled that, few weeks back, the local government bought brand new vehicles for the traditional rulers.
The buying of the vehicles was not the issue according to the source who reliably informed our correspondent ,but that the money was never in the budget and did not take the approval of the local government councillors.
In Akure North alone, the total sum of the vehicle purchased amounted to Nine hundred and fifty Million naira only (#950,000,000) with evidences on ground.
It was however gathered that, the Akure Local government Chairman , Hon Dr Gbenga Fasua , the State ALGON, Chairman was saddled with that responsibility of getting the vehicles for the traditional rulers.
While Confirming the legality or illegality from a legal luminary on the matter , Barr Taiwo Adeoti, said EFCC has a case against the parties involved because ,they have acted against the law and its punishable under the law.
However, further investigation revealed that, the Commission will also look at the actual cost of the vehicles and what has also been presented on papers gathered from the accounting officers of the local governments.
Hon Fasua , being the Chairman of all Chairmen in the state seems to be in the forefront of the whole scenerio.
The questions begging for answers on this matter from the Commission (EFCC) are :
Is the money removed from FAAC or Not?
Why did the legislative arm not known of it ?
Since the money expended in buying the vehicles were not planned , why the sudden rush and of what gain?
The source from the Commission reliably confirmed to our reporter, all financial racketeering within the space of the deal will be investigated and acted upon accordingly.
