Residents of Irele community in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State have recovered the body of a woman allegedly shot dead by suspected gunmen along the Irele–Oke-Ako Road.
The discovery of the corpse sparked tension in the community, as locals gathered at the scene where the victim’s lifeless body was found, drawing mourners and sympathisers.
Eyewitnesses described the atmosphere as filled with grief and anger, with many residents lamenting the rising insecurity in the area
A video circulating online showed community members surrounding the corpse before placing it in a van for evacuation from the roadside.
Many of those present appeared distressed as they mourned the victim, whose death residents described as tragic and preventable.
According to a voice heard in the background of the footage, the woman had reportedly been abducted about seven days earlier before she was allegedly killed by her captors.
The speaker also criticised security operatives, accusing them of failing to respond effectively to repeated attacks and kidnappings in the area
