
The wife of the governor, Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa has urged the good people of the state , most especially mothers to embrace the vaccination against the deadly disease of Measles through the introduction of Measles Rubella , which will eradicate and prevent children from being affected by the disease.
Mrs Aiyedatiwa, who at the Sensitisation meeting with stakeholders on Measles Rubella Vaccine organized by the office of the first lady of the state , in collaboration with UNICEF and the state government at the International Culture For Culture and Events (DOME ) in Akure, the state capital.
According to her ‘ I want to use this medium to Appeal to our mothers to heartily embrace this gesture for the benefits of our children “
It will interest you that this gesture will prevent our children from contacting this deadly disease and will also safe the love of the unborn generation of embraced and taken when the time shall come ” Mrs Aiyedatiwa said
Meanwhile, the permanent Secretary,Primary Health care, Dr Francis Adegoke Aponbiemu Permanent Secretary,Primary Health care had earlier talked about Rubella Measles vaccine that is to prevent the death of children from the deadly disease most especially when an affected pregnant woman is involved
While talking, Dr Aponbiemu said further that It will now take over from the formal Measles and kill completely the spread of it. Saying the vaccine is meant for children from 9 months to age 14 which will definitely end the measles and that the vaccine is free of charge through out the state.
However, Mrs Aiyedatiwa told the women that She the vaccine is safe and good for saving lives of the children.
She urged all to come together and embrace the gesture and propagate it well to the people so that we can jointly have a free Measles society
Mrs Obadiji Lawrence,the key -note speaker on Rubella Measles , said the disease is contagious and mostly caused by malaria which is deadly and could affect psychologically is prompt action and solution is not taken to combat it.
She said further that,the disease could cause serious complications, and reduces mortality rate
The vaccination prevent pregnant women from the disease burden if urgently monitored and handled
Saying the vaccination will be carried out in ten days and it will be in pre and post between 20th and 29th January,2026
She said that ,the programme will fully kick off from January 2026 which will be beneficial to women and the children from Ondo state..
Mr Tunde Ayoade UNICEF representative, the partner agency appreciated the government of Ondo state who said the introduction of Rubella is to prevent the diseases from further killing of children since it’s prone among them.
He said the meeting is to deepen the collective efforts which depends largely on stakeholders to make a priority for the people and said the organization will support and also give technical assistance to protect the children in providing a better future for the children.
