Sequel to the much complaints by parents in the state over the sudden increase in the levy placed on intending common entrance students by school heads from #3000 official price to between #18000 and #20,000, the state government has ordered the refund of the balance to the parents.
In a meeting held on thursday at the Ministry of Education’s office by the commissioner, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun with the affected schools and other stakeholders, it
was said and agreed that, only the official money of #3000 should be taken and every other charges be withdrawn from the banks and refunded to the parents.
It would be recalled that, on Monday ,parents of the pupils of public schools across the state challenged why they would have to pay that huge amount of money for common entrance when the state government continue to say that Education is free.
This generated a lot of controversies where it was later leaned that some bodies within the sector in the state loaded the money far above normal before the cat was let out of the bag.
The Ministry quickly sworn into action to arrest the situation before it generated to protest by the parents.
Sources informed GermaneReporters that, all efforts have been reached by the Ministry to make sure the money is returned to the affected parents in less than two weeks from the time of this publication
