Atunluse Initiative (an organization whose primary concern is the living standard of the citizenry), is compelled to express it deepest concern over the escalating insecurity in Ondo State.
Recent killings, assaults, and kidnappings have created a climate of uncertainty and fear. We urge the Governor to immediately act decisively.
The Chairman Otunba Akin Akinbobola through the Public Relations Officer of the organization , Hon Mrs Aregbesola, said the Almajiri issue persists, with children dangerously roaming streets often times begging for alms posing risks. The killing of an Oba and the Eleyele Ilu Abo attack are stark reminders of level of insecurity. With elections drawing near, we ask: what will be the fate of Ondo state masses?
Let this be an eye opener to your excellency that the ongoing killings and insecurity might lead to:
- Increased fear and anxiety among citizenry.
- Potential skyrocketing of food items and other necessities for human living.
- Fear and apathy or decreased turnout in political activities across the state.
- Politicians being pressured to address security concerns negatively
- Possible manipulation of the security situation by politicians for political gains.
- Masses might perceive this security situation as a failure of governance, which can consequently generate tension.
- Trade and Commerce will definitely be affected, when people get scared to move about freely.
Atunluse Initiative demands:
- Massive deployment of security apparatus to various hotspots across the state.
- Reinforcement/reorganisation of the state organ of the Amotekun security agency in both combat equipment, staffing and training.
- Promotion of strategy synergy among all security agencies: the Military, the Police, the NSCDC etc.
- Address the sudden Almajiri issue ravaging most cities in Ondo state.
- Give immediate support to victims of insecurity.
- Ensure justice is attained no matter whose orx is gored.
- Engender community involvement in protection of various community perimeters/land area.
- His Excellency the state governor should endeavor to be on air (radio & Television) at least once a month to speak and hear directly from the people of Ondo state as it affects security and other social services.
Ègbê Atunluse is seriously concerned about the present sudden gallop in insecurity and will endeavor to do a lot of advocacy and orientation of our people as it’s own little contribution to bringing peace and safety into our society.
Wishing you God’s guidance sir as you steer the ship of governance of our state.
Signed
Hon Aregbesola Nifemi,
Public Relations Officer,
Ègbê Atunluse Initiative
