Ondo State, Nigeria – Stakeholders in Owo/Ose Federal Constituency have raised concerns over the quality of representation and the conduct of aspirants vying for the House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to observers in the constituency, the race has been marked by accusations between the camp of the incumbent lawmaker and supporters of another aspirant. Both sides have been accused of circulating critical statements about each other. One camp alleges that a contender is being imposed by the state finance commissioner, while the other camp has also issued criticisms against the incumbent.

Critics argue that neither camp has presented a substantial record of service to the people. They point out that the incumbent, who is completing a second term, has not chaired a House committee during his tenure. They also say the other aspirant, a former member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, has not clearly articulated his contributions to the constituency during his time in office.

Elehinle’s record highlighted

Among the candidates contesting for the APC ticket, supporters say Hon. Nuel Ola Elehinle stands out. Elehinle, a former Commissioner on the board of OSOPADEC, is being promoted by his supporters as the candidate with verifiable community interventions across Owo and Ose Local Government Areas.

His supporters cite initiatives including support for farmers, bursary awards for students, payment of WAEC fees, provision of furniture to schools, installation of solar street lights, free medical and eye outreach programs, and distribution of free books and school shoes to public school students.

They also note his long-standing political involvement, stating that he has remained active in the party from the ACN era through to the APC and is regarded as a key mobilizer in both Owo, Ose, and across Ondo State.

“Of all the aspirants, Hon. Nuel Ola Elehinle has the most consistent record of direct engagement with the people,” a supporter said. “The constituency needs representation that translates into tangible benefits for residents.”

As the APC prepares for its primary election, stakeholders in Owo/Ose say the focus should be on candidate track record and the ability to deliver effective representation at the National Assembly.

“What we need in Owo/Ose Federal Constituency is impactful federal presence in terms of infrastructure facilities.
“We need good roads, particularly the expansion and reconstruction of the federal roads in the constituency.

“This would surely enhance the commercial activities in towns and villages in the constituency, which will invariable impact on the standard of living of the people.

“Elehinle has good track record which makes him preferable for the job. We hope his party would elect him as its candidate during its primaries.”
