The Chairman of Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, Engr. Sunny Oche, has flagged off the construction of a five-kilometre asphalt road linking several towns and villages across the council area, with the project formally inaugurated at Camp, Igumale.

The project, which was officially launched at Camp, Igumale, attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, youth and women groups, as well as residents who welcomed the development.

Oche said the road was designed to improve connectivity and facilitate the movement of people and goods, while also stimulating economic activities and improving access to essential services.

According to him, the project reflects his administration’s commitment to people-centred development and its resolve to provide infrastructure that responds directly to the needs of communities across the local government.

He added that the road would connect residential areas to markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other important locations, thereby reducing transportation difficulties faced by residents.

The council chairman assured the people that the project would be executed in line with approved specifications and required standards, urging residents to protect the infrastructure and cooperate with the contractor throughout the construction period.

He also called on members of the community to report concerns and offer constructive observations as work progresses, stressing that their cooperation would be critical to the timely completion of the project.

Oche commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his support for grassroots development and urged residents of Ado Local Government to continue to support the administration’s development programmes.

The contractor, Engr. Gabriel, assured the council and residents that the project would be delivered within the stipulated period without compromising quality.

Also speaking, the Leader of the Ado Local Government Legislative House, Hon. Agbo Adadu, said the legislature would exercise its oversight responsibilities by monitoring the project to ensure compliance with contractual specifications and quality standards.

In a related development, Oche distributed brand-new motorcycles to members of the legislative house and supervisory councillors as part of measures to improve their mobility and effectiveness in carrying out their official duties.

The motorcycles, which were delivered in their original boxes and assembled at the venue before presentation, were described by the chairman as working tools that would help elected officials access communities, particularly during the rainy season.

Commissioning the motorcycles, Oche urged the beneficiaries to use and maintain them responsibly, saying the gesture would make it easier for councillors to interact with constituents, respond to community concerns and carry out official assignments.

He reiterated his appreciation to Governor Alia for supporting the local government system, noting that the interventions were aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and improving service delivery.

Receiving the motorcycles on behalf of the beneficiaries, Adadu thanked the governor and the council chairman, describing the gesture as timely in view of the difficult terrain and transportation challenges confronting many communities in the local government.

The Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Sunday Otse Ogenyi, also commended the initiative and urged elected officials and other stakeholders to sustain cooperation in the interest of development.

The flag-off of the Igumale township road and the distribution of motorcycles underscore the council administration’s broader efforts to combine infrastructure development with practical interventions aimed at improving grassroots governance and the welfare of residents.
