The admission of students into the Junior Secondary Schools in Ondo State took a new turn during this year’s 2026/2027 academic session as a public school principal, in Oke Aro Akure, (name withheld), whose husband retired as a permanent Secretary, was summoned by the state Ministry of Education to answer many questions begging for attention after Germane Reporters laid hands on the information and confirmed from the Ministry.

The latest version of the admission process took a new and strange dimension as students were asked and forced to undergo blood test in a small retail shop opposite the said school at Oke Aro ,in Akure , the state capital before any student could be admitted into the school.
However, confirming the act, the Principal was summoned and questioned by the Ministry officials which the Principal denied to some extent that, she was only aware of the blood taking process but never being involved saying the process has been in place before her arrival as the head , according to information gathered.
Speaking with GermaneReporters (GR) on the issue after much investigations by our reporter, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry said,the Principal has been summoned on the order of the Commissioner, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun to unravel the rational behind it and that query has been issued to her.
Moreover, speaking with the Commissioner, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun confirmed that, state government never instructed any school principal to take blood sample of any student as yard stick for admission, saying it was strange entirely to the Ministry.
Meanwhile, the image maker of the Nigerian Civil Defence Corps in Ondo State, David Dan who spoke with our reporter on the issue as well said, the case has been taken over by the Corps and that one Alfa was arrested as regards that, making a useful information that though his shop was used for the process but the man employed for the job is at large.
As part of our investigation, a parent, who was asked to go for the test for her ward raised the alarm and contacted GR over it that she was mandated to pay the sum of eight thousand naira (#8000), for the emergency JSS 1 admission test else, her ward would not be taken.
The excesses of the public school principals in Ondo State have generated to a level that, government officials can no longer put them on their toes said by a parent. The parent even alleged the officials if probably certain cuts on the illegal money or fees are going to them from the Principals different schools with different measures of extortion
Mrs Olaoba Josephine, a parent from Estate High School, Shagari Village in Akure also lamented that they were asked to come with their ATM cards to the school to pay fees , that a POS operator is already standing -by to receive them with their cards.
The security agency in charge of the investigation revealed that, the man at large will be apprehended and that more revelations from Alfa will go a long way in prosecuting anyone found guilty.
