The Ondo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) received with gratitude to God, the news of the passing of Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the revered elder statesman, educationist, former Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State and national leader of Afenifere, who departed this world at the age of 100.
The party describes the death of Pa Fasoranti as the end of a remarkable chapter in the history of progressive politics in Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria. His passing represents a monumental loss to the progressive political family, the education sector, the people of Ondo State and the nation at large.
Pa Fasoranti was one of the most distinguished disciples of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, whose progressive philosophy shaped his political outlook and commitment to public service. His political journey began with the defunct Action Group during the First Republic and continued with the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) during the Second Republic.
Throughout his political career, he remained steadfast in his commitment to the ideals of good governance, social justice, educational advancement and the welfare of ordinary citizens.
His association with the Awolowo political tradition was not merely a matter of party affiliation; it was a lifelong commitment to the principles and ideals that defined progressive politics. He belonged to a generation of political leaders who understood that public office was a responsibility to serve the people rather than an avenue for personal enrichment.
Pa Fasoranti also made enduring contributions to the development of education. His career as a teacher and school administrator, as well as his establishment of educational institutions including Omolere Nursery and Primary School and Akure High School, reflected his conviction that education was fundamental to individual advancement and societal progress.
The Ondo State APC extends its heartfelt condolences to the Fasoranti family, the government and people of Ondo State, the people of Akure Kingdom, the Afenifere family and all associates and admirers of the departed statesman.
