.. Advocates state’s interest in voting choice

Public Servants in Ondo State have been charged to always sustain the inherent culture of discipline and integrity in the discharge of their duties.

The state Head of Service, Pastor Kayode Ogundele gave the charge at a meeting he held with Permanent Secretaries and other Accounting Officers in the state at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office in Akure, the state capital.

He said lateness, absenteeism and abscondment under the guise of foreign study leave should be eschewed so as not to run the system aground.

While calling for healthy relationships between the Accounting Officers and their commissioners and other political heads, Ogundele enjoined them to always play by the extant rules guiding the running of the public service.

The Head of Service, who noted that the nation was at a crucial moment when many of the political heads might be engrossed with electioneering and other political engagements, said Accounting Officers should hold forth and have a firm grip on their ministries and extra-ministerial departments and ensure government’s business is conducted smoothly.

Pointing out that though the governorship election would not be held in the state in the forthcoming 2023 general elections in the country, Ogundele enjoined officers to go out and cast their votes in pursuance of the strategic interest of the state as a way of complementing the gains of the Akeredolu-led administration in the state.

While urging civil servants to exercise their franchise by trooping out en mass to vote for candidates of their choice, the HoS however maintained that civil servants should at all times remain apolitical and conduct themselves within the limits of their fundamental rights.

‘It is a critical juncture in the history of our country, Nigeria. By Saturday, we will be going out for the presidential election….for us in Ondo State, we should look at our own strategic interests. What will serve us most and best.’ He said.

‘You need to go back and let your subordinates know and ensure that the interest of Ondo State is taken care of.’ He added.
