Kennedy Peretei, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, has been publishing articles that seem either out of touch or deliberately misleading, aiming to win undeserved favour from the public. In his latest piece, he unsuccessfully attempted to depict a dire security situation in Ondo State, unfairly targeting the state’s homegrown security outfit, Amotekun.
It is both uncharitable and unpatriotic for the PDP to fail or refuse to acknowledge the commendable achievements of our nation’s security agencies in their crucial task of protecting lives and property. Insecurity is a global issue that nearly every country, including advanced nations like the United States and the United Kingdom, struggles with. Just this year, there have been two assassination attempts on Donald Trump, the Republican Party’s presidential candidate. Each time, Trump expressed gratitude to the security forces, saying, “God bless America.”
It is worrying that the PDP leadership appears unaware of the strides Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has made to enhance security in Ondo State. In July 2024, Governor Aiyedatiwa provided 25 Toyota Hilux vehicles to all the security agencies in the state, including Amotekun, bolstering their operations significantly.
The PDP’s ignorance is evident in their failure to acknowledge that Ondo State is now recognized as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. As the saying goes, “Information is power.” If the opposition were aware of the accolades Amotekun received as a model for state policing at the recent Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Lagos, they might reconsider their criticisms.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration remains unfazed by these juvenile criticisms from a fragmented political opposition. The safety and security of lives and property will remain a top priority, as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution’s directive principles of state policy.
Incidentally, upon returning from their extended stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lagos—where they launched their outdated 7-point agenda—it was reported that one prominent PDP member, upon seeing his wife of over 20 years, remarked, “Madam, your face looks familiar.” Such are the consequences of their overstay!
Let me commend the re-appointment of Akogun Adetunji Adeleye as the Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency – Amotekun by the Governor. It is an appointment well deserved. Congratulations!
