Ondo State APC Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin has called on physically challenged individuals to put aside their differences and unite for advocacy and inclusiveness. At a peace meeting initiated by Adetimehin, he emphasized that unity is crucial for achieving their rights for accessibility, education, employment, healthcare, and social inclusion.

Adetimehin stressed that infighting among cluster groups will only deny them patronage and hinder their fight for rights. Instead, he encouraged them to rise above divisions, embracing their unique strengths and speaking with one voice.

“The importance of unity cannot be overstated,” Adetimehin said. “When we work together, we can achieve great things. Unity will enhance our advocacy efforts, promote inclusive policies, foster cooperation with government agencies, and inspire able-bodied allies. It will also break down barriers, reduce harmful stereotypes, and promote collective empowerment.”

Princess Omolafe Koledowo, Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, urged members to work harmoniously with the Agency for the Welfare of Persons with Disability to benefit from government policies and programmes.

However, some members have been calling for the removal of Princess Folasade Arise, Chairman of the Agency, citing disagreements over her leadership style and policies. Princess Arise addressed these concerns, condemning the approach used by some members in seeking her removal. She highlighted her achievements in office, focusing on member welfare and rights, and sought cooperation and mutual support for collective empowerment.

Despite these challenges, Princess Arise remains committed to her role, ensuring the Agency’s welfare programmes and policies benefit all members. She emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration, stating, “We must work together to break down barriers and create opportunities for all physically challenged individuals in Ondo State.”

Adetimehin thanked the warring factions for embracing peace and breaking stereotypes and stigma. The Association honoured him with an award for his remarkable support and for the proposal for the creation of the Association to receive legislative approvals.

Adetimehin urged Princess Arise to maintain a friendly atmosphere amongst her colleagues by working closely with all clusters to prevent further bickering.
