It was like a drama at the University Of Medical Sciences ,Ondo in Ondo state when the University authority turned it’s back to the newly admitted students of the university who are below sixteen years of age.
According to a source within the university revealed to our reporter that, the Vice Chancellor ,Professor Adesegun Fasusi had a meeting with the parents of the Freshers that the directive came from Joint Admission and Matriculation Board JAMB that anyone below the stipulated age of sixteen should not be admitted.
However, all efforts reaching the Vice Chancellor on his mobile line proved abortive as he could not pick his call for further verifications.
The Spokesperson of the university, Mr Isaac Oluyi responded to the call put across to him on the matter where he said that , the University had a meeting with parents on Monday this week over the issue and that the management of the institution promised to refund the acceptance fee that must have been paid by the “would be” student.
Also he said the Institution is magnanimous enough in still considering anyone who would be sixteen by the resumption date in January 7,2025.
Speaking with a parent on it, Mr Adeolu Adebayo said the action is absord and ridiculous, for the school and the Federal government to have taken such hilarious decisions which may have a psychological effects on the affected student
” The correction should have been done from the elementary schools not at the admission stage” when such candidate have merited all it takes to be admitted but later told that he or she has not gotten to the age ” he said
” It should have been that, any child not up to six years, shouldn’t be allowed for registration into a school not when the child has gotten to that level” he added.
Meanwhile, the school is likely the first ever to have implemented such policy while other institutions are giving admissions to qualified candidates.
Mr David Wewe, another parent emphasized that,who should have taken students under age eighteen, if not a Medical university like UNIMED .
