The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been ordered by a federal High Court sitting in Abuja to immediately resume the continuous voters’ registration (CVR).
This is coming after Anajat Salmat and three others sued the Commission as sole defendant in a suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1343/2022.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a judgment, on Tuesday said registration should be stopped 90 days before the 2023 general elections so as not to deprive Nigerians their electoral rights.
Justice Ekwo held that it was the constitutional responsibility of the electoral umpire to make adequate provision for the exercise in accordance with the Nigerian laws.
“The case of the plaintiffs succeeds on merit,” the judge declared.
