2023 Election : INEC/ NUJ Train Southwest Journalists On Effective Journalism

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has trained journalists across the southwest zone of the country towards 2023 general election on effective Journalism in making the country a better place to living mostly during this period of transition.

The stakeholders at the training included the Residential Electoral Commissioner REC In the state, Dr Rufus Akeju, the National President of NUJ, Chief Eziguzo, and Journalists from the southwest including the chairman of Ekiti state.

The REC said that it is necessary for journalists to join hands with INEC in making the coming election a huge success.

Dr Rufus Akeju applauded the media being the forth estate of the realm for their doggedness.

Akeju said further that the 2023 election is a collective responsible of all in having a verile nation.

The REC concluded that only the accredited journalists will be allowed to asses the election materials and that there won’t be room for shot- taking like , filming of ballot papers at the poling unit.

However, the National commissioner in charge of Voters education, Barr Festus Okoye, who was represented by the also said emphatically said that anyone without the permanent voters card, such an individual will not be able to vote on the election day.

Okoye ,who was represented at the program by the Head Of Department HOD voters education in Ondo state, Oyetola Oyelade said that, the PVC is the only license to voting and that anyone without it on the election day, should not just move closer to the voting points.

While speaking, the president of the NUJ, Chris Uziguso,who was also represented by Mrs Bimbo Oyetunde appreciated the commission INEC for the seminal on the forthcoming general election, saying journalists or the media have always been the targets of the miscreants most especially the political thugs who have turned journalists to be their targets and in the cause of this, many lives have been laid to rest and no tangible efforts have been taken.

Uziguzo urged journalists to brainstorm and work together for the peace and that it is important if deliberate efforts can be obtained in assisting government in making meaningful decisions by giving a good and positive reportage

According to him, he said journalists must imbibe the culture of the profession by maintaining high possible standard through the peace – preaching journalism

Ondo REC therefore applauded the media being the forth estate of the realm for their doggedness and that the 2023 election is a collective responsible of all in having a verile nation.
