Ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in Ondo State, a frontline aspirant in Akure South local government area of Ondo State, Idowu Otetubi, has stated reasons he is contesting the council’s chairmanship seat, saying his candidature represent the true yearnings of the people to make governance at the grassroots effective.
He says his plans and passion for development of the area are beyond party politics.
Otetubi made the assertion in an interview on Monday in Akure.
“I am progressive in nature; when I become the council chairman, I will be busy with the development of the council to maintain the status as the capital city of Ondo State.
“I am committed to rejigging the system by changing the ugly narratives in our polity. I can wholeheartedly tell you that i will be remarkably different as i will be a solution provider”
Otetubi, a chartered Accountant, said that health, education, empowerment and social development would be his priority if elected.
According to him, hundreds of youths will be engaged in various work sectors in Akure including agriculture, environmental vanguard and security volunteers to ensure the community is safe for business. Our youths are not properly engaged, thereby increasing social vices.
“My administration will employ youths in various segments. The first thing on my agenda as soon as i am sworn into office is rapid transformation of Akure in all ramifications such that would impact on all residents and improve their economic and social lives”
Otetubi blamed the lack luster performance of our party in the local government to dearth of activities at the local council. The council is dry and boring with no activities. The local government ought be the “esuuru” of party members, that’s why it is called “local” government.
“We need a grassrooter in the local, someone who can think outside the box. Akure South is a cosmopolitan city, the local government should be able to sustain itself without waiting for JAAC every month. The local government needs a thinker and someone with grassroots appeal and i possess all the qualities”
“I am in the race to win and to fight for the survival of the downtrodden. I am exposed enough to give the best to our people”, he said.
