
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and a foremost lawyer, Chief Olusola Alexander Oke S.A.N has urged the religious leaders across the country not to preach against political participation but rather encourage their members to be fully involved in decision making process that affect their well-being.
Oke , who made the clarification on Saturday in Owo, at the 40th year anniversary of church of Nigeria ,Anglican Communion Diocese of Owo with the theme :
Moving Forward : The Roles Of The Church In Nigeria Politics.
with dinner and award night and Endowment launch held at Mydas Hotel &Resort event hall, Owo.
The Senior lawyer who was a guest lecturer at the epoch- making event stated that, the church, as a matter of necessity should and as well must encourage its members to participate in politics at the grassroots rather than as a response to a sudden retreat against an action perceived as capable of marginalizing christians in the governance system.
” permit me to state very unequivocally therefore that the church must encourage members to partake in politics at grassroots rather than preaching against what could be perceived as capable of marginalizing christians in governance system” he said.
Moreover, he emphasized that politics and religion have potential intricate relationship that any distortion of one affects the other element adversely.
” As a lawyer of over three decades of active participation in vocation of politics , I hold a fervent belief that politics and religion have potentially intricate relationship” Oke said
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the anniversary committee, Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of the state, who was ably represented by his deputy, Hon.Lucky Aiyedatiwa, appreciated everyone, for their love and oneness in the body christ, therefore urged Nigerians to continue in the fight against disunity so as to take the country to an enviable end.
