As workers in Ondo State joined the rest across the globe to celebrate the year 2023 Workers’ Day, the state Head of Service, Pastor Kayode Ogundele, FCIPM, has called on workers to rededicate themselves to work.
Speaking at a rally to commemorate the 2023 Workers’ Day celebration held at the Gani Fawehimi Freedom Arcade in Akure the state capital , the Head of Service, while felicitating the workers for yet another Workers’ Day celebration, said there is yet a lot of grounds to cover in the service to the people of the state and that calls for their rededication to service.
Ogundele, who appreciated Gov. Akeredolu’s workers friendly posture in the scheme of things, said the only way to reciprocate the gesture is for workers to rededicate themselves to the service.
According to him, while salaries of workers have been paid up to date, the process of promoting deserving officers for the year 2023 had recently begun as approved by the Akeredolu-led administration in addition to other workers’ welfare packages.
Highlighting some of the efforts of Gov. Akeredolu’s strides aimed at boosting workers morale, Ogundele said the administration had recently approved appointment of officers into critical areas in some MDA’s as well as regularised the appointment of officers recruited by the Ondo State Emergency Medical Service Agency, ODEMSA.
Also, he recalled that the government has regularly promoted deserving officers with full attendant financial benefits and initiated the ‘Oranghis’ a health insurance scheme through which workers and their dependants could access quality health service at minimal cost.
In his words, ‘the second term eight (8) point agenda christened REDEEMED has been designed to rejig the Administration and improve upon previous performance in order to achieve effective and efficient service delivery.’
‘I therefore challenge you all, as partners in progress to key into this programme so that our dear Sunshine State could become the envy of other States in Nigeria.’
‘Consequently, there is the dire need for all Public Servants to adopt a new attitude toward the business of governance by showing high sense of industry and be creative in carrying out their duties,’ he added.
He lauded the existing industrial harmony between the state government and organised labour which he said has virtually removed strikes and industrial threats from workers’ lexicon in the state.
While wishing the workers a happy May Day celebration, Ogundele reiterated the continued commitment of government to the well-being of the workforce, the retirees and the entire citizens of the state.
