The Resident Doctors at the University of Medical sciences Ondo,in Ondo state have commenced an indefinite strike action with immediate effect from Monday ,30th December,2024.

The Doctors who trooped out on Monday in their large numbers within the school/hospital premises rendering different solidarity songs with so many placards with different inscriptions over the poor condition of service and over bearing work activities being subjected into, by the management without any plan of improvement in any form.

While addressing colleagues , the leader of the Doctors at the hospital, Dr Olagbe Kehinde

said , the Doctors have been stretched even over stretched to a level that, many have resigned, some even left without notification over the condition of service

He said further that, series of save our souls letters have been written to the management for review but all efforts proved abortive.

Meanwhile,in a bid to calm the Doctors not to embark on the said strike , the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Gbala Micheal made an appearance to the Doctors pleading for a little time more for the management to look into their agitations but all no no avail as the Doctors were making references to all the letters sent even to the last one.

The Agitations are stated below:

Press Release by the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) UNIMEDTH, Ondo State On 30/12/2024.

The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) UNIMEDTH, Ondo state wishes to inform the public that, after extensive deliberations among members of congress and engagements with the relevant authorities, we have been left with no choice but to embark on an indefinite strike.

This decision, though difficult, has become necessary due to the persistent neglect of our welfare and the failure to address critical issues affecting our members across the state, infrastructure and delivery of quality healthcare services.

Key Issues:

  1. Correction of irregularities on descrepancies to salaries payment
  2. Implantation of new minimum wage scale.
  3. Ensure parity of salary payment with other tertiary hospitals as contained in teaching hospital constitution
  4. Tax review &parity with other medical professional within the state
  5. Accreditation across all departments so as to boost training, services and research.
  6. Implementation of Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) and accoutrement allowance as compared to neighboring teaching hospitals.
  7. Restoration of power supply in the hospital
  8. Improved call meals
  9. Payment of all hazard allowance arrears
  10. Payment of ARD members (HO’s & SHO’s) arrears.
  11. Provision of conducive accommodation to resident doctors within the hospital premises.
  12. Employment of doctors to increase manpower across the previous departments.
  13. Well defined posting of surgical and medical residents.
  14. Improvement of doctors’ call rooms; putting them in habitable and conducive conditions

Our Position:

The ARD remains committed to providing quality healthcare to all citizens. However, we cannot continue to operate under conditions that undermine our well-being and compromise patient care.

We urge the government to:

  1. Expedite the payment of all outstanding salaries and allowances.
  2. Improve working conditions in the 3 centers across the state
  3. Ensure the prompt implementation of all demands stated in this release.

Appeal to the Public:

We deeply regret any inconvenience this strike may cause to patients and the public. We appeal for understanding and solidarity as we advocate for a healthcare system that benefits all Ondo state citizens and environs.

The ARD remains open to dialogue and hopes that the relevant authorities will take immediate steps to address these concerns and bring an end to this industrial action.

SIGNED:
Dr. Olaogbe K.T
President, Association of Resident Doctors (ARD)
Dr. Momodu R.I
General Secretary, Association of Resident Doctors (ARD)
