As the Nigeria Police Force prepares for its upcoming Departmental Selection Board (DSB) interview for Inspectors seeking promotion to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP II), the Police Service Commission (PSC) has issued a stern warning against financial inducement in the process.

In a statement released on Monday, May 12, 2025, the PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hashimu Argungu, cautioned officers scheduled for the interview to avoid any form of monetary contribution aimed at influencing the outcome. The promotion interview is scheduled to commence on Monday, May 19, 2025, across the 17 zonal command headquarters.

Argungu disclosed that PSC officials will be deployed to the various zones to conduct the exercise in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police Force. He emphasized that the Commission is determined to eradicate the practice where candidates pool money to bribe supervising officers, describing it as a discreditable tradition that undermines the integrity of the Force.

“I am fully aware of what happened in the past, where candidates contributed money and handed it to those overseeing the interview. This unethical behaviour ends now,” he said.

He added that any officer, whether from the PSC or the Police, found to be involved in such malpractice will not only face sanctions but also public disgrace.

Promotion in the Force, he stressed, will now strictly follow merit and availability of vacancies, as the Commission aims to strengthen professionalism and fairness within the system.

“We want a Police Force that is capable, competent, and respected. Officers must earn their promotion through performance, not through backdoor dealings,” Argungu stated.

He urged all candidates to prepare adequately for the interviews and approach the process with dignity, assuring that the PSC remains committed to building a responsible and effective policing system for Nigeria.
