In line with the SDP Constitution, and in accordance with the mandate given to the National Working Committee (NWC) by the National Convention to fill vacant positions in the national leadership of the Party, the National Working Committee at its meeting today, Thursday May 15, 2025, which was presided over by the National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, and had a full compliment of the Members, except one, filled three of its key positions with the following eminent Nigerian patriots and capable personalities to add value to, and strengthen the Party:
1. Deputy National Chairman (South)
Distinguished Senator Ugochukwu Uba, is a scholar, public servant, and politician from Anambra State, South-East Zone.
He was a former Director-General and later Honourable Commissioner in Anambra State under the SDP administration of the late Governor Chukwuemeka Ezeife in 1992. He served the nation as a member of the Centre for Democratic Studies (CDS), with the late Professor Omo Omoruyi as Director-General, under the IBB regime.
Senator Ugochukwu Uba was elected and served as a distinguished Senator, representing Anambra South, from 2003 to 2007, during which time he served as Chairman, Senate Committee on Marine Transport, and was credited with the passage of the Cabotage Act.
A holder of first- class bachelors degree and PhD. in Political Scinece, he served as a senior lecturer at the University of Abuja until 2021.
He was first put forward for this position as DNC-S in 2022.
2. Deputy National Chairman (North)
Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar is from Gombe State, North-East Zone.
He is an acclaimed statistician and a holder of Masters in International Affairs and Diplomacy, and Phd. in Political Economy and Development.
He served the SDP as pioneer National Secretary in 2010 to 2015 and was the Governorship Candidate of the SDP in 2011 in Gombe State.
He also served as Chairman, Convention Planning Committhe SDP in 2011.
Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar was the pioneer Director-General of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Nigeria.
3. National Financial Secretary
Mr. Hussani Ado Bello, is from Kano State, North-West Zone.
He is a chartered accountant, retired civil servant of both the Federal and Kano Civil Service Commissions. He is currently a Finance and Tax Consultant, and Public Relations Strategist.
He was a former SDP State Chairman of Kano State in 2018, former Organising Secretary of Kano State IPAC in 2019, and former Chairman of the Forum of SDP State Chairmen in 2020.
Accordingly, Senator Ugochukwu Uba as Deputy National Chairman (South), Prof. Sadiq Umar Abubakar as Deputy National Chairman (North) and Mr. Hussani Ado Bello, as National Financial Secretary, have become members of the National Working Committee of our great party, the Social Democratic Party, with effect from May 15, 2025, having been duly and validly appointed.
