What seemed like a gentle man arrest turned bloody and later resulted to death of a suspect’s father on Tuesday after a joint Police and vigilante operation to arrest a criminal suspect leaving the officer badly injured at Kara Market in Iyana Share, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State
The Kwara State Police Command said the incident happened during a manhunt for a suspect identified as Bello Doti. Police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, explained that trouble started when the suspect’s father, Alhaji Doti, suddenly appeared at the scene and attacked one of the vigilante members with a machete.
“In the process of defending themselves, the assailant sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.
The injured vigilante is receiving treatment, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital mortuary. Meanwhile, Bello Doti escaped during the chaos and remains on the run.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, has ordered an intensified manhunt for the fleeing suspect, warning that anyone who obstructs or violently interferes with security operations will face the full weight of the law.
“We urge members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies. Providing credible information is critical to bringing the suspect to justice,” the Command stressed.
Residents with useful information have been advised to contact the nearest police station or call the Command’s emergency lines: 07032069501 or 08125275046.
