Leaders of the Fulani and Yoruba communities in Songo, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Monday apprehended four suspected thieves and handed them over to operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun.
The development comes shortly after leaders of the Hausa community pledged cooperation with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to maintain peace and security in the state.
Speaking to Hope Metro, Special Adviser to the Hausa community, Gonia Garuba, narrated that he received a distress call around 3:00 a.m. about a robbery incident in the area.
“By about 6:00 a.m., four of the suspects were apprehended. We immediately contacted the Amotekun operatives and handed them over for proper prosecution,” he said.
Garuba disclosed that some residents had attempted to call the police, but the community insisted on working with Amotekun, describing the corps as a trusted security partner.
The arrested suspects were identified as 25-year-old Ahmed Hassan, 30-year-old Danger, and two others whose names were not disclosed.
“We are happy Amotekun responded swiftly. We are working together to ensure the safety of lives and property in our community,” Garuba added.
It will be recalled that herdsmen had previously injured residents and Amotekun operatives in the same location. However, community leaders are now collaborating with the agency to strengthen security in Akure North.
