Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, has affirmed Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to a strategic development agenda aimed at industrializing the state, enhancing tourism, and reducing reliance on the civil service economy.

Ajanaku made these remarks in Akure during a courtesy visit by the Executive and members of the Online Media Professionals of Nigeria, Ondo State Chapter.

He elaborated that the Governor’s governance approach is well-structured and focused on achieving long-term prosperity, rather than engaging in short-term populist initiatives.

“The administration of Governor Aiyedatiwa is not slow, as some may believe; it is tactical and strategic,” Ajanaku stated. “To transition Ondo State from a civil service-driven economy to an industrialized one, careful and meticulous planning is required.”

Highlighting significant aspects of the development agenda, the commissioner announced that preparations are underway for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to visit Ondo State next year for the official groundbreaking ceremony of the Ondo Deep Seaport, which is expected to “transform the state’s economic landscape.”

Ajanaku also revealed that a modular refinery capable of producing 500,000 liters of petrol daily will soon commence operations in Ondo State, alongside ongoing discussions for the establishment of a cement factory in Okeluse, Ose Local Government Area.

These industrial projects, he noted, will provide substantial employment opportunities and boost the state’s internally generated revenue.

In addition to industrialization, Ajanaku stated that the Aiyedatiwa administration is investing in tourism development. Plans are in motion to transform Araromi-Obu into a world-class resort destination through collaboration with investors behind Lagos’ Eko Atlantic City. Contracts have also been awarded for modernizing Idanre Hills, including the installation of elevators to improve tourist accessibility.

“In the Southwest, after Lagos, Ondo State possesses the greatest economic potential,” Ajanaku remarked. “We are endowed with natural resources, tourism sites, and an oil-producing status as part of the Niger Delta Development Commission. The Aiyedatiwa administration is committed to harnessing these opportunities to create a self-sustaining economy.”

He added that ongoing infrastructural projects, such as the Shagari Bridge in Akure, are expected to be completed soon and featured as key projects during the state’s 50th anniversary celebration in February 2026.

Commending the media for its role in nation-building, Ajanaku assured that the Ministry of Information would continue to work with online media professionals in promoting government policies and countering misinformation.

He announced that the ministry is developing a mobile app to track fake news and a website to facilitate information sharing and public engagement.

Earlier, Joseph Adesuyan, Chairman of the Online Media Professionals (OMP), congratulated the commissioner on his appointment and expressed the association’s readiness to partner with the state Ministry of Information to combat fake news and showcase the government’s developmental efforts.
