Barrister Balarabe Abiodun Akinwumi, a former stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State, has formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Akinwumi’s defection was sealed on Wednesday at a ceremony held at the Akure Town Hall, which attracted leaders of the ADC from across the state and the national level, as well as party faithful and supporters.
Earlier, the House of Representatives aspirant for Akure Federal Constituency had obtained his ADC membership card at his Ijomu/Obanla Council Ward, where he pledged total loyalty to the party and promised to sustain close engagement with the grassroots.
Speaking at the event, Akinwumi described the ADC as a credible political platform committed to amplifying the voices of ordinary Nigerians.
He said the party was positioned to drive meaningful change in Ondo State and across the country.
He faulted the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration, alleging that its policies had deepened economic hardship among citizens, and urged Nigerians to support a new political direction.
Welcoming the new entrant, the Ondo State Chairman of the ADC, Asiwaju Ayowole Ademoyegun, described Akinwumi’s decision as bold and strategic, assuring him of equal rights and opportunities within the party.
Ademoyegun noted that Akinwumi’s defection had further strengthened the ADC in the state and called on members to intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
