Prof. Simidele Odimayo, has called on leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to unite in sustaining the current developmental strides in Ondo State, even as he seeks their support to represent Ondo South Senatorial District in the Senate.
Prof. Odimayo, a renowned Professor of Microbial Pathology and public health expert, noted that the progress recorded in the state — particularly in the health sector — must not be reversed but consolidated through purposeful representation at the national level. According to him, his decision to aspire to the Senate is driven by a commitment to deepen development, attract greater federal presence, and give Ondo South a stronger voice in national policymaking.
As Special Adviser on Health, Prof. Odimayo has been widely acknowledged for his instrumental role in transforming healthcare delivery in the state. Notably, he facilitated the establishment of the first Federal Teaching Hospital in Ondo State — a historic milestone that has expanded access to tertiary healthcare, enhanced medical training, and positioned the state as a growing hub for specialized medical services.
In addition, he contributed significantly to the provision of modern ambulances across local governments, strengthening emergency response systems and saving countless lives. Several state hospitals have also benefited from improved bedded structures and upgraded facilities, thereby improving the quality of care available to citizens at the grassroots.
Speaking to party leaders and stakeholders, Prof. Odimayo stressed that these accomplishments demonstrate not only competence but also his capacity to deliver tangible results when entrusted with responsibility.
“My aspiration to serve in the Senate,” he explained, “is a continuation of the work we have started. Ondo South deserves representation that understands development, can attract federal projects, and will defend the interests of our people with knowledge, experience, and integrity.”
He therefore appealed to APC leaders, delegates, and the general public to support his senatorial bid, emphasizing unity, inclusiveness, and collective progress as the pathway to sustaining the administration’s achievements.
Observers note that his technocratic background, academic distinction, and practical governance experience distinguish him as a candidate capable of bridging policy and grassroots realities. His entry into the senatorial race, they say, reflects a desire to move from advisory service at the state level to legislative advocacy at the federal level.
As political activities intensify ahead of the elections, Prof. Odimayo’s message remains clear: sustaining Ondo State’s developmental agenda requires experienced leadership, continuity of vision, and the support of the people. For him, the Senate represents the next strategic platform to deliver even greater dividends of democracy to Ondo South Senatorial District and beyond.
