Medical Doctors and all other Health workers in Ondo State are fully set to embark on an Indefinite strike action anytime from now if the governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa fails to do the needful in getting more hands into the system as gross understaffing of Doctors have led to serious overworked, fatigued and death of members including other Heath workers.
Arising from the Statutory Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) Ondo State held on Tuesday 21st April, 2026 at NMA House, Igbatoro Road, Akure.
The OGM observed the following with displeasure:
That the NAGGMDP Ondo State should issue press release on the demands of the Association.
That the gross understaffing of Doctors in the State led to the fact that our members are seriously overworked, fatigued and exhausted in their places of work.
That all Doctors who had promotion in 2024 have not been paid their promotion arrears from July 2024 to December 2024.
That the Association should work in tandem with the Ondo NMA, our parent body, who had issued an ultimatum on several issues bothering on our members’ welfare to include:
Immediate Implementation of the Consequential Adjustment of Salaries and the payment of all arrears from the effective date as provided by the circular.
Immediate payment of the Accoutrement Allowances.
Employment of
more Doctors into the services of Ondo State to cater for the populace.
Payment of promotion arrears from July 2024 to Dec 2024.
The following demands were therefore enumerated:
Immediate Implementation of the Consequential Adjustment of Salaries and the payment of all arrears from the effective date as provided by the circular.
Immediate payment of the Accoutrement Allowances.
Employment of more Doctors into the services of Ondo State to cater for the populace.
Payment of promotion arrears from July 2024 to Dec 2024.
The OGM unanimously agreed that NAGGMDP Ondo State is fully in tandem with the resolutions of the Ondo NMA as earlier enumerated to Government and will proceed on an indefinite strike, if need be, as a body under our parent body stemming from failure of Government to accede to our demands.
They further stated that failure to meet the above demands within the stipulated dates, the Association shall not be able to guarantee industrial harmony in the health sector.
Finally, the Leadership of the Association reiterated her commitment to the provision of essential Healthcare to the public but urged the State Government to urgently meet the above demands in order to avert an avoidable industrial action.
While we await your favorable response, kindly accept the assurances of our warmest regards.
