The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ondo State Council, Prince Leke Adegbite, has been honoured with a Leadership Award by the Social Sciences Students’ Association (SOSSA) of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA)

Adegbite received the award on Thursday 21st May, 2026 during a public lecture and leadership award series organised by the students’ body at the Nelson Mandela Hall of the institution.

Adegbite’s honour is recognition of providing quality leadership for journalists and the media industry in the state over the years without any blemish.

The event, themed “Nigerian Security Challenge and Its Politics of Blame Game,” drew academics, traditional ruler, and prominent stakeholders.

Represented by a journalist, Adeboye Ado, the NUJ Chairman urged students to remain committed to their studies and embrace hard work as a pathway to success.

He appreciated the students for recognising his contributions and commended the university for producing graduates who are excelling in different fields across the globe.

Speaking earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Adebisi Daramola, described the lecture topic as timely and relevant to the nation’s current realities.

“The choice of the topic is timely and courageous. The competence of the guest lecturer is not in doubt. I commend the association for organising this lecture because it contributes meaningfully to national development,” he said.

Also speaking, the Owa-Ale of Ikare-Akoko, Oba Adeleke Adegbite-Adedoyin commended the President of the Social Sciences Students’ Association, Mogaji Oluwatosin, for his leadership qualities and dedication.

The monarch charged students to continue making the institution proud, urging them to embrace entrepreneurship and job creation opportunities while remaining optimistic about the future.

In her remarks, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Adesuyi Adebukola, stressed the importance of tackling insecurity in the country, noting that the challenge had become a global concern.

She referenced the recent abduction of school pupils in Oyo State and called for practical and lasting solutions to security challenges rather than continuous blame trading among leaders and stakeholders.

According to her, “Without security, meaningful development cannot be achieved. It is time for all stakeholders to work together towards finding lasting solutions to the challenges confronting the country.”

Delivering the keynote lecture, the Vice-Chancellor of Achievers University, Prof. Oyesoji Aremu, said insecurity had continued to negatively affect Nigeria’s economy and educational sector.

He noted that security concerns had prevented him from accepting several academic engagements in different parts of the country.

Aremu called for strengthened regional cooperation and better support for security personnel battling insecurity across the nation.
