There was disruption of vehicular movement along the Okitipupa–Ore Highway on Wednesday following the alleged fatal shooting of a driver, identified as Solomon James, an indigene of Kogi State.
THE HOPE gathered that the incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. The deceased, who was reportedly transporting kegs of diesel in his vehicle, was allegedly pursued by a soldier riding a motorcycle before being shot around the D-Choice area in Ore.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the chase continued for some distance before gunshots were fired at the vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said the driver was hit during the incident, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and come to a stop in a nearby bush, while the soldiers allegedly fled the scene immediately.
When our correspondent visited the scene, multiple bullet marks were observed on the vehicle, while the incident attracted residents and road users, leading to temporary traffic disruption along the route.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged shooting remain unclear as of the time of filing this report, and authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the development.
Residents and commuters expressed concern over the incident and called for a thorough investigation to determine what led to the confrontation and ensure accountability.
