I, Nejo Funso Clement, candidate of the Boot Party for the Ondo South Senatorial District bye-election, thank the good people of Okitipupa, Irele, Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Odigbo, and Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo LGAs for your support and for coming out to vote, despite all challenges.
The process we witnessed today once again exposes the deep flaws in our electoral system. Voter apathy, BVAS technical failures across many polling units, and the continued manipulation of the process make a mockery of democracy. When citizens lose faith that their votes will not count, democracy itself is under threat.
I commend my polling agents and Boot Party members who stood firm at the polling units from start to finish, Your courage and sacrifice will not go in vain, history will be kind to you
I use this opportunity to call on the National Assembly, INEC, and all relevant stakeholders to urgently reform our electoral laws and processes. Nigeria deserves elections where every vote truly counts, without intimidation, BVAS failure, and “result writing” in secret locations.
The fight for credible elections continues. I remain committed to that struggle.
