The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State has arrested a 43-year-old non-teaching staff member of a public primary school in Ilorin over the alleged sexual abuse of a 14-year-old pupil that reportedly resulted in pregnancy.
The suspect, identified as Amuda Kamaldeen Olubukola, was apprehended following a complaint lodged with the Gender Unit of the NSCDC Kwara State Command, prompting an investigation into the incident.
According to findings by investigators, the suspect allegedly had repeated unlawful sexual relations with the Primary Four pupil inside his office within the school premises.
The victim reportedly told investigators that the suspect repeatedly promised to marry her before allegedly abusing her. She also alleged that he covered her mouth during the incidents to stop her from crying out for help.
The case was uncovered after the girl’s mother reported to the NSCDC that her daughter had become pregnant, allegedly as a result of the abuse.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to the allegations but attempted to justify his actions by claiming they were “the work of the devil.”
Reacting to the development, the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Abbas Nda Mohammed, condemned the alleged act, describing it as a serious violation of a child’s rights and dignity.
“Schools are meant to nurture, protect and inspire children, not expose them to abuse. Any individual who preys on the innocence of a child, particularly within the school environment, has committed a grave offense against society and will be made to face the full weight of the law,” the Commandant said.
Mohammed assured residents that the Command would ensure justice is served, adding that the investigation is almost complete and that the suspect would be arraigned in court as soon as legal procedures are concluded.
He reiterated the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting children and prosecuting anyone found culpable in crimes involving minors.
