Academic activities in all the three Universities owned by the ondo state government are set to embark on indefinite strike starting from Monday 10th August, 2026.
The industrial action is not unconnected with the refusal of govt to implement FGN/ASUU 2025 agreement which other states universities across Southwest have been paying
The Universities affected are : Adekunle Ajasin University,Akungba Akoko, Olusegun Agagu University, Okitipupa and University of Medical Sciences , Ondo.
However, the impending strike action is borne out of the fact that, the academic staff of the Universities have held meetings upon meetings with the government pressing home the demand in paying them the new minimum wage that have since been implemented in all schools across Southwest except Ondo state.
While speaking with Germane Reporters on the issue, the Chairman of Academic staff Union Of University, Adekunle Ajasin chapter, Prof Bolu Oshodi said the NWC of the Union will ratify the strike action this week from 8th to 10th August 2026 which all the Universities will embark on industrial action starting from Monday.
It would be recalled that, Adekunle Ajasin University academic staff have since been on strike for over a month due to non payment of three months salaries by the govt.
Moreso, early last week, the state government declared payment of #1.1B naira to the ASUU chapter of the University to clear the salaries owned.
Meanwhile all calls put across to the Commissioner of Education in the state, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun at the weekend to verify government angle to the impending strike proved abortive as he was not picking up the calls.
