Launches Akure-South Local Government Asset Recovery Committee.
The Executive Chairman of Akure South, Hon. Dr Fasua Gbenga Timothy, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to good governance, community engagement, and inclusive growth, emphasizing that residents’ welfare remains his top priority.
He explained that the purpose of the stakeholders’ meeting was to discuss governance and strengthen the relationship between the government and its political family, ensuring party members and supporters benefit from government programs.
He highlighted some initiatives his administration has implemented since taking office.
These include ongoing efforts to improve roads, drainage, and waterways through environmental projects such as clearing blocked drainage channels and canals.
He mentioned that drainage cleaning activities began at Ire-Akari 1 and extended to Ajopowo/Ondo Road, aiming to ensure smooth water flow and reduce flooding, including work from AdeSuper Axis down to Fiwasaye, passing through Eyin Ala waterways.
The chairman pointed out flooding issues around the Bypass area, partly caused by a building obstructing water flow, and assured that measures are being taken to resolve this. He also noted efforts to address poor drainage, which previously hampered water flow, with necessary interventions already ongoing.
He announced the formation of a joint committee involving Local Government and LCDA representatives to supervise environmental projects like gutter clearing across wards.
The chairman also discussed initiatives such as Operation Light Up Our Market and Operation Keep Our Market Clean, aimed at improving security and safety in markets and commercial zones. He supported education through materials and bursaries, the construction of 100 modern market complexes at Mojere Market, and ongoing monthly stipends for the elderly. Additionally, the government has graded over 200 roads for free community use.
ANNOUNCES WOMEN AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT
Hon. Fasua emphasized a women’s empowerment program benefiting 100 women and 100 youths to promote economic independence. He stressed the importance of ward-level representatives ensuring proper oversight and fair distribution of resources.
GOVERNMENT ASSET RECOVERY

He shared that discussions with former Chairmen had already begun, and the process will start soon. The goal is to protect government property and ensure it is preserved for current and future generations.
Hon. Fasua assured his administration’s ongoing commitment to development, environmental sustainability, empowerment, accountability, and people-centered governance. He called for continuous cooperation and support from stakeholders, party members, community leaders, and residents, stressing that collective effort and engagement are vital for sustainable progress.
