….Wole Adene,
Owo, Ondo State
Dear National Leaders of the All Progressives Congress, permit me to start my piece with alarms;
APC in Ondo state is under serious threat, and remember Ondo State is strategic to the APC
Also importantly, APC must avoid a situation where Asiwaju Tinubu’s second term bid will be compromised in Ondo state because of unnecessary infighting
Ondo state has always been the strong platform of SouthWest politics, and even though things go overboard at times, the truth is that it shows how politically conscious the people are.
At times the political brickbats are flung so heavily that one gets scared, and such a time is what we are witnessing in the state now, just that this time some of the actions of the dramatis personae stand logic on its head.
As an Owo son, I am deeply worried for two reasons; the kind of treachery that is going on in the state now first happened to an Owo son, the revered Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin (now late) by Akin Omoboriowo (now late) who tried to use federal might to undermine the the late sage.
Today in Zondo state Akin Omoboriowo’s role in 1983 is gradually being replayed only that this time it is being played from within the same camp and that makes the present more dangerous than the past.
Secondly, the party that many are strategising to destroy was given life in Ondo state by an Owo man, Rotimi Akeredolu, so naturally we the Owos will not look away while the legacy of our kinsman is destroyed.
I know politics is dirty everywhere including the United States where I currently live but in sane climes like here, party implosion is a total sin.
In Nigeria as it is globally, every political party has a structure, and that structure which has given Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa the unquestionable right to leadership of the APC in Ondo state, so it is difficult to understand why any member of the same party would be doing anything to destroy the party and the Governor.
I am not a fan of Aiyedatiwa for some reasons but the truth must be told, we don’t need an unnecessary crisis in the state.
I therefore wish to appeal to my aburo who seems to be the arrowhead of the APC faction that is doing dagboru (disaffection) to call his troops to order. Enough of the fire.
At almost 70 I have seen a lot in this country and I am sure I have capacity to advise Bunmi Tunji-Ojo on two issues;
- It is unfair to destroy the party that made you
- I am sure you have heard from history what happened to Akin Omoboriowo, he died politically after his infamous escapade
Bunmi, by virtue of your position in the Federal Government which has given you a deep pocket many are courting you, but when the chips are down they will all be gone before you can say hi.
Also those supporting you not to sincerely honour the leadership role God has given Governor Aiyedatiwa in the APC are doing you a lot of harm. I assure you if the crisis you are causing in the state makes Asiwaju Tinubu to lose the Presidential election in Ondo state, he will not pat you on the back. Asiwaju is ruthless in matters like that as I am sure you know.
There are rumours all over the places that your manipulations are towards your governorship ambition after Dr. Aiyedatiwa leaves office in 2029, and I have told anyone who has said so that you strike me as too intelligent to go on a wild goose chase.
In 2029 the governorship will rotate to the Central Senatorial District NOT the North where you are from so don’t let anyone deceive you to take your money. If I know Asiwaju well enough and I think I do then he won’t even support such an aberration.
At this point I wish to passionately appeal to National Leaders of the APC to wade into this crisis threatening to destroy the party in Ondo state. IT IS NOT IN YOUR INTEREST TO LET IT HAPPEN Call both parties to a round table and make them stop the impending implosion
A word is enough for the wise.
