In celebration of the 2025 International Day of the Girl Child, the Girls to Women Development and Research Center, in collaboration with Rhealyz Africa, hosted a vibrant Girls’ Outing Event at Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar School, Akure, bringing together girls from different secondary schools across Akure.

The event, themed “The Girl I Am, the Change I Lead: Girls on the Frontlines of Crisis,” provided a platform for young girls to express themselves, learn, and engage in meaningful conversations about leadership, technology, and self-development. The girls took center stage as moderators, panelists, and contributors demonstrating confidence, intelligence, and creativity.

As part of her continued commitment to girls’ health and empowerment, Chief Olamide Falana, founder of the Girls to Women Development and Research Center and a passionate advocate for gender equality, gifted sanitary pads to all participating girls. She emphasized the importance of menstrual hygiene as a key aspect of empowering adolescent girls to stay confident and focused in school.

“Every girl deserves to feel confident, safe, and supported in her journey. When we address menstrual health, we are not just giving pads, we are giving girls dignity and a fair chance to thrive,” Chief Falana said during her address.

She also emphasized the role of girls in leadership, urging adolescent girls to see themselves as leaders from today. Chief Falana encouraged them to be tech-savvy, noting that “technology is the new oil; an ICT space where girls can take the lead quite easily.”

She highlighted the need for young girls to embrace technology not just as consumers but as innovators and changemakers.

The event featured interactive sessions, including two panel sessions where the girls took charge.

The girls also shared inspiring ideas on how they can leverage digital platforms for learning, advocacy, and leadership.

Refreshments, gifts, and moments of bonding made the outing memorable for all participants, leaving the girls motivated to dream bigger and lead with courage.
