…Describes Sen. Patrick Ayo Akinyelure’s Alade-Idanre-Owena Road Allegations as Mischief, Challenges him to Present Evidence of Petition sent to him
Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire SAN, representing Ondo Central Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly and the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate for the Ondo Central Senatorial District has expressed strong support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, saying the President is working day and night to bring succour to Nigerians and fix the country.
Adegbonmire stated this while speaking on the “Renewed Hope Agenda” radio programme on Adaba 88.9 FM Akure, anchored by Dimeji Daniel, where he discussed the performance of the Tinubu administration, his achievements as a lawmaker and several political and developmental issues affecting Ondo Central and Nigeria
Adegbonmire said the reforms being undertaken by the Tinubu administration should be viewed as processes designed to produce enduring solutions rather than temporary measures.
According to him, “Things are being done in phases, but the President is building systems and institutions that will endure. For that reason, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves commendation for his courage and commitment.”
Adegbonmire also expressed his disagreement with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s position on fuel subsidy removal, saying he did not see Atiku becoming President of Nigeria and arguing that some of the statements credited to him on subsidy removal demonstrated, in his view, a misunderstanding of basic economic principles.
He noted that several international financial institutions, including the World Bank, have acknowledged aspects of the economic reforms being implemented by the Federal Government.
The federal lawmaker explained that economic recovery requires patience and proper sequencing, stressing that microeconomic conditions and fundamentals must become stable before improvements can fully translate into stronger macroeconomic indicators.
Adegbonmire highlighted what he described as significant investments by the Tinubu administration in infrastructure and economic development.
He pointed to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, renewed attention to rail infrastructure, investments in airport infrastructure and aviation safety, as well as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which provides education financing to students in tertiary institutions.
He also commended the Tinubu administration efforts for improving foreign-exchange stability, saying greater predictability in the exchange-rate environment would enable manufacturers and importers to make longer-term business plans.
He further pointed to the growth of Nigeria’s foreign-exchange reserves to above $50 billion, arguing that stronger reserves can help improve investor confidence and strengthen the country’s ability to withstand external economic pressures.
Speaking about his own record, Adegbonmire said his interventions in Ondo Central within his first three years in the 10th National Assembly have focused on education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth development, empowerment and human capital development.
As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, he said he played a significant role in matters concerning justice, human rights and the rule of law.
He further disclosed that the leadership of the National Assembly appointed him Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee on the Review of the Electoral Act, a responsibility he said reflects the confidence reposed in his capacity and integrity.
Adegbonmire also serves as an integral member of the Constitutional Review Committee of the National Assembly, where he participated in efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s constitutional and democratic framework.
He also sponsored what he described as life-changing Bills designed to deliver long-term benefits to his constituents and contribute to national development.
Among the projects he highlighted was the facilitation of educational intervention projects valued at more than ₦800 million at Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure.
He also listed the construction of modern classroom facilities at St. Helens Unity Secondary School, Ondo, and Construction of Modern Classroom at Owobamibo, Ofosu in Idanre Local Government Area, as well as the renovation of classrooms at St. Thomas and St. Andrew Primary School, in Akure South Local Government Area.
The Senator further highlighted his Mega Empowerment Programme, through which thousands of beneficiaries across Ondo Central have received economic empowerment materials and cash support aimed at strengthening livelihoods and creating opportunities for self-reliance.
On healthcare, Adegbonmire disclosed that he has renovated and equipped the Basic Health Centre at Ipogun in Ifedore Local Government Area; Renovation of Ifelodun Community Basic Health Centre, FUTA North,Akure
He added that another 20 – Bed Maternity Centre is to be constructed along Oda -Town.
Also, Basic Health Centres in Igbara-Oke and Ijare have also been identified for rehabilitation
Adegbonmire said he had “lost count” of the number of students he had supported through scholarships and educational assistance, as well as individuals he had helped to establish businesses and become economically independent.
While reacting to allegations concerning the Alade-Idanre-Owena Road attributed to Senator Patrick Ayo Akinyelure, a former member of the Senate, Adegbonmire described the allegation as “pure mischief.”
He explained that the road was awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works on behalf of the Federal Government during Akinyelure’s tenure in the Senate and was not a constituency project under his control.
Adegbonmire said he became concerned after seeing a video circulating on social media in which Akinyelure allegedly claimed that he had sent a petition to his office concerning the matter.
“I called him personally to challenge him on the statement I saw on social media. I also informed Mr. Johnson Akinmusere, whom I know through him, about the matter,” Adegbonmire said.
According to him, Akinyelure subsequently sent him a message indicating that he was not referring to him personally and that he only thought he had received the petition.
Adegbonmire therefore challenged the former senator to be fair and transparent by returning to the public to clarify whether his office or he personally had ever received or acknowledged any such petition.
The Senator said the only document he personally saw was the front page of the petition that was subsequently sent to him after he had raised questions about the social-media video.
He further questioned why the issue was only being raised publicly now.
“People should ask where he has been since 2024 and 2025. Why is he making these insinuations now, when he wants to contest an election?”
Adegbonmire asked.
He maintained that political disagreements should not be allowed to distort facts or mislead the public, stressing that records should be examined objectively and issues should be discussed based on verifiable facts rather than political insinuations.
Adegbonmire concluded by reaffirming his commitment to effective representation, saying his focus remains on supporting the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and delivering tangible projects and opportunities to the people of Ondo Central.
Adegbonmire concluded by calling on Nigerians, particularly the people of Ondo Central, to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, himself and other APC candidates across all levels in the 2027 elections.
He said the Renewed Hope administration needs continuity to consolidate the reforms and projects already underway, while his own mandate, if renewed, would enable him to continue building on the legislative and constituency achievements recorded during his first term.
