A Nigerian living in Italy, Ossai Emeke, has revealed how he is using TikTok to inspire young people across Africa and Europe to place greater emphasis on discipline, good character and finding purpose rather than seeking popularity on social media.

Emeke, a native of Agbor in Delta State and an indigene of Ndokwa North Local Government Area, said his interest in motivational content began after he moved to Italy in 2016.

He explained that adapting to life in a foreign country taught him valuable lessons about perseverance, discipline, patience and the need to constantly reinvent oneself.

According to him, these experiences motivated him to use social media to encourage young people facing personal, financial and social challenges.

While TikTok is primarily known for entertainment, music and viral trends, Emeke said he chose to turn his platform into a channel for promoting positive thinking, confidence and emotional resilience.

He recalled an incident that changed his perspective about the potential impact of his work. After sharing a motivational message, he received a message from a woman who said she had been considering taking her own life but found encouragement in his words.

The experience, he said, convinced him that his content could make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, regardless of the number of views or likes it received.

Emeke said feedback from his audience remains one of the major ways he evaluates the impact of his messages, noting that some followers have told him his content helped them regain confidence, deal with difficult emotional experiences and make positive decisions.

Beyond social media, he established the MindsetMatters Foundation to provide practical assistance to vulnerable individuals. The foundation supports people through initiatives involving food, education, clothing and mental health assistance.

Emeke said one of the central ideas he communicates to young people is that difficult circumstances should not become the definition of their lives.

“Whether I’m speaking to a young Nigerian trying to escape poverty or a European youth looking for direction, my message is the same: you are not your struggle, you are your strength,” he said.

He also urged young people to be cautious about seeking constant approval online, arguing that excessive dependence on likes, comments and views can undermine genuine personal development.

“Social media has made many people tie their value to views and likes, but I tell them that purpose is not tied to popularity,” he said.

According to him, young people should work towards developing confidence, identity and direction away from the pressure of social media.

He said his broader mission is to use his influence and the MindsetMatters Foundation to remind people that their lives have meaning and that the way they think can significantly shape how they respond to challenges and opportunities.
