
AKURE, the Ondo State capital on Wednesday birthed a new radio station, Glow 99.1 FM
The new station had earlier commenced test transmission last week on World Radio Day, was formally which caught the attention of the people of the state with its quality output and nice tunes dishing out to the members of the public.
The guest speaker at the event, Dr Gbenga Abimbola, an associate professor and Head of department, Adekunle Ajasiin University, Akungba Akoko said the station needs competent and experienced hands to strive.
Dr Abimbola said further that, as part of efforts making the station people’s choice, the Proprietor should allow the staff operate freely without undue interference.
” the station has the potential to be great as long as it is given a free hand to operate as an independent body”
He said further that the chairman should not expect any income for now but rather inject more funds into it by paying salaries promptly.
“the chairman should endeavor to be up and doing in paying the salaries of workers on time and never expect any viable income pending when it will gain strength ” he said
The station is located at Glow FM station house, No. 1, Effon Alaye Street (Former Gani Fawehinmi building), Ijapo Estate, Akure.
Dr Akande, the proprietor of the station, an Anesthesiologist during the unveiling, said the station will provide excellent broadcasting in terms of information, education and entertainment.
According to him, the station is poised to hit the airwaves with interesting programming, as experienced broadcasters are going to be engaged to man the station.
The station is currently headed by Ace Broadcaster and former Director of Programmes, Ondo State Radiovision Corporation (OSRC), Alhaji Ismail Akinkunmi Ishaq.
Notable personalities at the unveiling on Wednesday were the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II represented by Oba Adekunle Adebowale, Agbolu of Agbaje Ife; Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade, Odundun II; Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo, Jilo III; Founder of Prayer Center Church of God, Pastor Samson Oluwabodede; Chief Imam of Akure, Sheikh AbdulHakeem Akorede; Head, Department of Mass Communication, AAUA, Dr Gbenga Abimbola, among other personalities
