December 27,2023, the governor of the state,Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa entered into a vow with the good people of state ,when he took the mantle of LEADERSHIP from his former boss, Rotimi AKEREDOLU,that he would be steadfast and committed to the.plights of the people.
He ( lucky Aiyedatiwa) said further then that , improvement will come on our Education, infrastructure, employment and above all , make life more better for the people of the state.
However, questions are being asked by the people of the state that, why is the state on a stationary journey – an intended journey but not achievable , not moving forward nor moving backward.
Education – in 2024, parents across the state lamented over unwarranted levies levied on them.by the school principals during the last admission into the public secondary schools.
Parents were forced to buy books , Uniforms ,chairs and tables , from.the designated sellers of the schools running to thousands of naira after which, the money collected payable to different banks varies from #20,000 to #30,000.
More so, many of these schools experience serious shortage of teachers having over sixty (60) students in a class with no teacher to teach them because the available hands have been seriously over -stretched.
Imagine a Chemistry teacher handling five arms each in the Senior Secondary school SSS 1 , SSS 2 ,same applicable to other teachers even at the junior section.
Surprisingly, 2024 , the governor announced the recruitment of two thousand teachers into the system and other health workers , which till today, nobody could give a specific answer to why we still witness a serious stand -still over it.
Recently, the students who are preparing to write 2025 West African Examination Council WAEC exams in the state , were mandated to pay certain amount of money running to #6000 naira and also deliberating on another #2700 from the stable of the PTA only on the poor parents to pay the charges or the levy.
Interestingly, the governor wanted to employ as parts of his decisions and mandate for Ondo people, but as we speak, no employment has been done in the area of Education and as well, the health sector which is crying for help as the state witnesses limited competent hands at the hospitals and Health Centres across the 18 local government areas of the state.
The Intra city roads in Akure, the state capital is nothing to write home about now that raining season is around the corner. Most road projects are not just being attended to, or rather slightly abandoned,the reason or reasons are not made available to.the people for understanding.
Mentioning the roads in Akure alone ,are enough to say that other parts of the state are also.witnessing same fate. Oda road construction has since stopped , Onyearugbulem bridge abandoned, Ijoka road construction begging for help, Ero community road construction hanging, Orita Obele -Ikota road no longer receiving attention and many others.
The government should have taken time to explain the rationale behind this delay to the people and stop playing games.
So , it’s time for the people of the state to know what is happening to their resources and how it is being spent judiciously.
Minimum Wage,shuttle bus and promotion of workers as at when due showed that the governor meant well BUT WHY AT A TIGHT CORNER IN MAKING AFOREMENTIONED WORKABLE ?
