I read with consternation and indignation a publication making the rounds on various new media platforms titled “Akotogbo-Ijuosun Road Project,” purportedly issued by a group identified as Concerned Akotogbo Youth and signed by one Mr. Obanor Dare, a known steward of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The publication seeks to draw the attention of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to the status of the ongoing road project.
This development is particularly concerning, especially in light of the present administration’s demonstrated commitment to quality and standard delivery in infrastructure. However, following a thorough investigation and physical inspection, it is evident that the Akotogbo-Ijuosun Road Project is very much on course. The contractor’s performance is consistent with the terms of the contractual agreement and aligns with the required specifications.
It is important to emphasize that road users and commuters may experience some level of discomfort during construction, especially in this rainy season. Such inconveniences and temporary inaccessibility are typical of major road works and should not be misconstrued as abandonment or negligence.
That said, the alarm raised by this group is not only misleading but also premature and unfair. I urge the people of Ijuosun and Akotogbo to remain calm and be assured of the government’s unwavering commitment to completing the project as scheduled.
More importantly, our youths must strive to be discerning and objective, and must learn to differentiate between constructive engagement and destructive criticism—especially when such criticism is cloaked in the guise of Concerned Akotogbo Youth and designed to undermine progress.
Genuine youths and credible youth organizations must rally around and support government projects in their communities to ensure their success.
