The College of Agriculture, Akure, may soon be upgraded to a full fledged university of Agriculture.
The lawmaker representing Akure North and Akure South Federal Constituency, Hon. Abiodun Derin Adesida, has presented a bill to the National Assembly for the elevation of the college to a full fledged University of Agriculture.
The bill passed the First Reading on the floor of the House of Representatives on Friday, May 9th, 2024.
The institution was established in January 1957 by the then government of the western Nigeria.
It was meant to develop the agricultural sector by training certified agricultural assistants including middle level manpower who would help address the agricultural gap in the the country.
It is worthy of note that the Akure School of Agriculture is the only Agric college yet to be upgraded among its contemporaries in the Country.
