The Deputy Inspector General Of Police DIG,Sylvester Abiodun Alabi has said that the community policing that will make security more effective needs the involvement of the traditional and religious leaders
He made this known at the Police Officers mess in Akure, the Ondo State Capital in company of the state Commissioner of Police,Abayomi Oladippo, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone 17 while on performance tour in implementing performance reforms across the south west region of the country.
He said he was in the state as part of duty tour directive as issued by the Inspector General of Police, noting the visitation was to get a situation report for the improvement of policing in the country.
“I am here to gather feedback on our performance so as to assist the force leadership to implement ongoing reforms. I bring best wishes from the Inspector General of Police as we assure you of our readiness to partner with the state government in her drive to sustain Ondo’s records as one of the most peaceful states in the federation”, Alabi noted.
ALABI later charged the men of the force to desist from extorting the members of public which their primary aim was to protect.
” I urged you to stop the habit of extorting money from the members of the public ,an act that is capable of denting the image of the force ,Alabi said
In his address, Abayomi Oladipo, Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, appreciated the DIG’s visit, saying that the command would continue to engage officers and men on professional conduct for effective service delivery.
“Our display of professionalism during the governorship primaries in the state came to bare as we were non-partisan and followed the guiding principles as laid down in the electoral act.
” The command is one of the best ever in the south west if not the best base on ways by which we have been able to tackle criminality to it’s bearable minimal through the help of the Inspector General of Police” Abayomi said
