Oluwo confers Atayese of Yorubaland title on VeryDarkMan

…urges him, Ratels to embrace politics

Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been conferred with the traditional chieftaincy title of Atayese of Yorubaland by the Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I.

The title was bestowed during a ceremony held at the monarch’s palace in Iwo, Osun State, on Wednesday.

VeryDarkMan travelled to the ancient town following a personal invitation from the Oluwo. He arrived through Ibadan Airport alongside coordinators of his Ratel movement from the South-West.

Videos shared on social media showed the monarch dressing the activist in traditional Yoruba attire (Aso Oke) before formally conferring the chieftaincy title on him. The ceremony was attended by palace chiefs, members of the Ratel movement and other dignitaries.

Speaking during the event, the Oluwo described Iwo as a peaceful and hospitable town that welcomes people from all backgrounds. He also declared his support for the Ratel movement, describing himself as the “King of the Ratels.”

The monarch assured members of the movement that anyone who chooses to live in Iwo would enjoy the same care and affection he extends to his own children, stressing the town’s culture of hospitality.

Oba Akanbi also urged the movement to complement its social advocacy with active participation in politics, arguing that political power is essential for achieving lasting reforms and justice.

“I want you Ratels to know there is now a king in the Ratel. I want your help to cleanse our dirty culture and remove the bad from it. Today, VDM has been chosen. Keep moving, but you should not stop yourself from politics because that is the only way you can implement your dreams so that you can even control kings,” the monarch said.
