The Executive Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Hon. Dr. Gbenga Timothy Fasua, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining a clean, healthy and hygienic environment as he led the monitoring of the August edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the council area.
The exercise, which was conducted in strict compliance with environmental sanitation laws, formed part of the council’s renewed efforts to curb indiscriminate dumping of refuse, environmental pollution and activities capable of creating offensive odours within Akure South.
Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Dr. Fasua reaffirmed his determination to ensure that the local government becomes a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
The council chairman disclosed that the Environmental Department, alongside his monitoring team, would henceforth intensify monitoring across the various wards of the local government to ensure strict compliance with environmental sanitation regulations.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at sustaining cleanliness and ensuring that residents, traders and business operators take environmental sanitation seriously.
The monitoring team subsequently moved to Ward 2, where the chairman expressed concern over the dirty environment observed at Tipa Garage, as well as the activities of some residents and business operators who were seen going about their normal businesses during the designated sanitation period.
The council boss warned the defaulters against repeating such acts, stressing that the government would not hesitate to enforce the relevant environmental laws against anyone who violates the sanitation regulations.
Responding to the chairman’s warning, the Sariki of the Hausa Community in the area pledged the community’s readiness to comply strictly with environmental sanitation laws and support the council’s efforts toward achieving a cleaner environment.
Speaking with journalists after the exercise, the Executive Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Hon. Dr. Gbenga Timothy Fasua, expressed satisfaction with the sanitation exercise and commended residents for their cooperation. He also assured the public of the council administration’s continued commitment to enforcing environmental sanitation regulations and maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
Present during the monitoring exercise were the Vice Chairman, Hon. Adebayo Gabriel Ayodele; Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Iteyemi Adegoroye; Supervisor for Health, Hon. Adanlawo Olusakin; Director of Environmental Services, Sanitarian Babajide Funke; members of the Environmental Department; and the Information Officer, Adaramola A.O.
The exercise further underscored the council administration’s resolve to enforce environmental regulations and promote a cleaner and healthier Akure South Local Government Area.
